EV Chargers
Choosing to install a purpose-made charging point will reduce your charge time and manage your energy usage. With the growth in sales of electric vehicle sales there are insufficient public car chargers. Being able to charge at home or whilst at work reduces your reliance on the public network.
CHOOSING YOUR EV HOME CHARGER
There are two types of connector used in the UK. Your choice will be determined by your choice of vehicle and also the power supply to the building where the charging point is to be fitted.
Currently there are three charger types available Slow, Fast and Rapid. All three types have relative power outputs which determine their charging speed. For instance, a slow charger may take 6-12 hours to charge, while a rapid charger could achieve the same in under 30 minutes.
The most common home charger will have an output of 7 kW.
The last thing you need to consider is whether you need a Tethered or Untethered charger. Tethered means the cable is permanently connected to the Charging Point – Untethered uses a seperate cable.
